Swimming might not have the same glamour as other Olympic sports, but it is still famous for live viewers and those watching at home. Think of Tom Daley, who won the 2012 London Olympics bronze. Viewers can watch various swimming events from the 5th to the 21st of August. These include diving that can take only seconds and a 10km swim marathon lasting about 2 hours. This promises to be an exciting experience as viewers cheer on their country and hope for Olympic success. Which swimming events can we expect to see at the Rio Olympics?DIVING
Many viewers will watch the diving competition for the “Daley Factor” and cheer him on, hoping he can replicate his London success. Men and women will compete in different events involving diving from a springboard of 3 meters and a platform of 10 meters and performing synchronized and independent dives. From the 7th through the 19th of August, 136 athletes will compete in eight events. MARATHON SWIMMING
The scenery in Rio will be spectacular for viewers who can watch a 10km open water race. Participants must be more focused on their performances to notice the race. However, it is a different challenge than the diving events. It was introduced in the 2008 Beijing Games and is an example of an endurance event that forms part of the Olympics. The open-water swimming marathons will occur over two days on August 15th and 16. They will be set against the breathtaking backdrop of Copacabana Beach.SWIMMING
In the indoor swimming pool, men and women will compete in various events during the first week (6-13 August). The freestyle events will range from 50m to 800m, while the backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly events are 100m or 200m. There’s also an individual medley of 200m and 400m. A 4x100m relay and a relay with 4x200m in freestyle are also available. Swim fans have many options when it comes time to watch the Olympics.Synchronized Swimming
The majority of Olympic events are open to both men and women athletes. Only rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized Swimming are reserved for women. Synchronized Swimming is often criticized as a spectacle rather than a sport. However, it is just as tricky as the other Olympic sports. Swimmers can stay underwater for several minutes and still show great flexibility and strength. You’ll be amazed at the amount of effort the swimmers put in. This section will take place from the 15th through the 20th of August. MODERN PENTATHLON
Athletes who compete in Olympic events that combine swimming with other sports, such as the modern triathlon or pentathlon, are not limited to swimming. All-round athletes need to be strong and have endurance. This is especially true when competing in five different sports on the same day. Pentathlon combines pistol shooting, 200m freestyle swim, show jumping, and a 3.2km run. It also includes a fencing competition. The ancient games did not include swimming in their pentathlon, and women’s pentathlon came into existence only in 2000. The Modern Pentathlons are held on the 20th and 19th of August.MODERN TRIATHLON
The modern triathlon is only three sports compared to five in the pentathlon. However, the swimming event is longer than the 200m of the pentathlon. The triathlon requires participants to swim 1.5 km or 1500m. The triathlon includes a run of 10km and a cycle ride of 40km. While the pentathlon is a sport that focuses on versatility, the triathlon is a true endurance event. Triathletes are forced to push themselves beyond their limits because the three triathlon sections must be completed in succession. The Triathlons are scheduled for the 18th and the 20th of August.WATER POLO
Water polo is not a swimming competition but requires participants to swim 1500m during a match. The Olympic sport is based on European rules, although American and European versions exist. Water polo, like the modern pentathlon, was only a male-only sport until the Sydney Games of 2000. The events for this year will be held from the 6th through the 20th of August. Water polo is a dynamic and energetic sport that’s suitable for everyone. If you want to get fit and inspired, join a team. Will you keep up with Rio Olympics Swimming?
