Who are the participants on the list?
In the second year of this league, ten teams compete head to head to determine who is the best within the league pool. It’s now four teams following a regular season that included ten games and two semi-finals.
A fair amount of presence in Europe and North America is heading into the finals. It is interesting to note that these four teams also reached the final in the previous year’s tournament. This is the order they rank:
Energy Standard: the team from Paris is one to keep an eye on. Many have proclaimed them to be”the team you must beat. They’ve been awe-inspiring at relays this year, and their women have been at the highest level. There is no better proof than their leading athletes, Sarah Sjostrom and Siobhan Haughey.
The Cali Candors: the team based in San Francisco is a strong contender for the final. Their swimmers have been awarded the coveted five (5) MVP (Most Valuable Player) awards. Some big players are on the roster, including Lily King, Justin Rest, and team captain Caeleb Dressel. Their strengths are the breaststroke and backstroke events; however, they’ll need to achieve faster times in the relay races to compete in an event.
London Roar: the second European team in the final fighting for the top spot, not surprisingly, has a vast pool of English players in their squad. Their performances in the last two matches have put them in an excellent position to compete for top honors. Their Adam Peaty, Tom Dean, and Kira Toussaint team have kept their fight alive.
LA The current: this team is from LA and the City of Los Angeles and completes the quartet of teams participating in the final game. The medley relay race for men is a significant strength of the group. They have yet to lose even a single one of them this season. Vice captains of the team Beryl Gastaldello Captain Ryan Murphy, and Tom Shields are their top swimmers.
Record Setters
The excitement surrounding ISL’s season two ISL is genuine. The event was one that many swimmers were looking for. The dearth of high-performance events due to the world being in shock from the Covid-19 disaster meant that the ISL was set to be a showpiece event for various reasons.
The swimmers were not disappointed. Three world records for short courses were broken and are listed below:
Great Britain swimmer representing London Roar, Adam Peaty, set a new record for the 100-meter men’s breaststroke by clocking 55.49 seconds.
Kira Toussaint of the Netherlands, also a London Roar member, set a new world record in the women’s 50-meter backstroke by finishing her race within 25.60 seconds.
The Cali Candors’ American athlete Caeleb Dressel posted the record of 49.88 seconds in the men’s 100m Individual Medley event.
While no records have been set in the pool at the time of this article, The ISL will be remembered as the first professional swimming league located in a bubble. In a location similar to NBA’s Orlando bubble, the ISL’s Budapest bubble is a clever move in the field.
