In the end, I am a trier. I am a Try-Athlete who enjoys trying out new sports and activities and is determined not to allow my lack of talent or skills, or my shape and size ( I am not slim and skinny), to hinder me from enjoying sports and life in general.
Being physically handicapped as a kid and weighing 354 lbs, and then depressed in my adulthood, I am now active to bring years to my life and life to mine. I’ve lost a significant amount of pounds ( although I have gained some) and made many new ac and models and have enjoyed adv, ensures and opportunities I never thought would be the possible pleasure of cycling, running as well as the pool, change the diverse range of sides Olympians and inspiring local champions. However, I am now getting ready for my biggest challenge since the beginning of this year.
In the last year or around, the world has thrown a few unexpected curveballs in my direction, and they have shattered my confidence. But I’ve risen and will not quit.
In the past few months, I learned to swim freestyle ( to swim that it could be that easy?), and with issues with my musculoskeletal system and weight, I have made swimming my primary sport. Not only does it help me shed weight (although anyone who isn’t hungry after a long swimming session?), it can also help to relax, and relax meme rechallenging to think about the stresses of daily life when you are focused on breathing. The swimming tempo can help dispel the voices nagging within my head.
I’ve finally come to the realizatirealizednjoy swimming. A 2.5km swim in the Swimathon ends months of lots and hours of enjoyment on the water.
This summer, in conjunction with Simply, m trying to avoid getting drowned ( or freegettingting drowned) or freezing the security of the pool to tackle the task of becoming an open-water swimmer.
Over the next few months, you can follow my progress here and at my blog, www.howmanymiles.co.uk, with my primary goal being the 2 Mile open swim in Loch Lomond at the Great Scottish Swim in August.
I’ll also seek to make the mseekorry about the pun) from a try-athlete to an open water triathlete. I would like to inspirewantbly inspire a few of you to participate in my race. Participate; I’ll compete ( maybe not the most appropriate term) for the Civil Service Open Water Championships ( everyone loves a trier) in Norwich and will be striving to improve my cycling and running to be ready to compete in this year’s Glasgow 2017 European Championships. It’s not like I’m hoping to compete with the top triathletes in Europe. Instead, I hope to participate in Triathlon, the Scottish Tri at The Park. An exclusive Glasgow triathlon event in 2018 that is open to the entire family. It’s my first triathlon, not a pool-based one.
It won’t be easy, and while I will receive professional advice and be outfitted with a portion of the swimming equipment from Swim, my determination, commitment, and discipline will take me to the finish mark ( or past the buoy).
I’m also trying to demonstrate to the world that swimming can be a game that is accessible to everyone. I would like to hear from you about what it means for you to swim and the tips you can offer to help others ensure that an open-water swimming experience is enjoyable and, most importantly, safer.
