THE EVOLUTION AND FUTURE OF A SWIMSUIT

Aqua Sphere swimwear and goggle expert Aqua Sphere has been growing in sales year after year. This is due to its high comfort, high-innovation technology. We spoke with Lindsey Taylor (Swimwear Product Manager) to learn more about the evolution of each collection. How early do you start to work on a new group of swimwear? “We begin working on every new season two years in advance. The Design Team is all keen swimmers. This includes aqua aerobics fans, lap swimmers, and aqua biking lovers (yes, really!). Triathletes. Swimming is something we live and breathe. This helps us understand what makes excellent swimwear and what doesn’t.

How important does fashion play in your evolution? We always keep the function of each piece of swimwear in mind. We believe that comfort, fit, and performance are essentials. We want our customers to have the best experience in the water. You can only maximize your swimming enjoyment and performance if you feel great. We also know it is essential to feel good. We have spent much time creating a strong visual identity and positioning ourselves as the brand about color for Aqua Sphere’s swimwear collection. We are passionate about color and consider it an integral part of our lives. We do extensive research on fashion trends, color trends, and lifestyle trends before we begin to create each collection. All of their influences are deeply interconnected. You will often see fashion become more vibrant when the economy declines. All of these influences are important to us. We consult with top fashion gurus from all major global brands to find out what’s hot for the upcoming seasons.

Then, we take a variety of trends and play with them, and then integrate them into swimwear. What is the importance of new fabric technology? New fabric innovation can provide excellent feel-good benefits for regular swimmers. A swimsuit that is chlorine resistant and durable is something everyone will appreciate, even if they are only swimming two times a week. A quick drying garment is a must when you’re running from the pool to work. We are always in touch with scientists and other industries to learn about what’s happening in those markets. Every time we find an innovation that will improve the performance and comfort of a swimmer, there is great excitement at work!

How is the garment designed and developed? We involve top and everyday fitness swimmers in every new material or pattern cut. (We are often our most prominent critics!) The fit of each garment is carefully examined. Every garment must feel great, so it is rigorously fitted and swim-tested. Once we are happy, we can have fun styling and choosing the right color for a garment. We love to work with different materials and patterns to create a unique collection that has something for everyone. But, it is also of the highest quality. “We just finished Spring Summer 2016. We are trying to create a fun and vibrant range that will bring joy and hope to everyone tired of the slow-moving global economic downturn. People’s lives. A strong focus on the environment and concern for the planet is also starting to influence manufacturing and textiles. There is a growing global conversation about how important it is to recycle post-consumer products in order to create new materials like we have never seen before. It’s exhilarating! The increased energy efficiency and water conservation in materials manufacturing will have an impact on the final product. This will allow for exciting new designs beyond 2016.

What does Aqua Sphere have for swimmers in February? Aqua Sphere Spring Summer 2015 is a stark contrast to the economic doom. We have incorporated the most popular colour trends and added pops of bright pinks and turquoises. These are strong stories for the season. The Koa one-piece is a body-shaping geometric design that showcases dazzling pinks, reds and electric blues within an athletic silhouette. The Koa is made in Aqua X Cell maximum muscle compression fabric, which improves performance and recovery. It also has high-stretch chlorine resistance. If you want to make a bold statement and evoke the glamour of Monte Carlo’s luxury, the Abby is the perfect choice. It features a classic silhouette with integrated bust support and body shaping panels. The elegant ribbon in the coolest pinks, reds, purples, and sea greens beautifully enhances the design. This fabric’s long-lasting properties make it a great choice for regular swimmers. Shimmering underwater prints is another big fashion trend for February. You can see how much we had having fun creating fish scale prints that resemble mermaids. The Casbah one piece is a head-turning combination of iridescent blue and sea green. It also features the Aqua Infinity fabric’s chlorine resistance properties. This mermaid will live a long, happy life with her stunning looks and enduring spirit. Aqua Light, our first ever line of water repellent swimwear made for fitness and recreational swimmers, was launched last year. It retains six times more water than traditional fabrics and dries six time faster. This makes it easier to transition from the pool to life outside. We were very pleased with the Aqua Light collection and have expanded it for 2015. We also introduced striking bursts in colour. Aqua Sphere is all about pushing technology to its limits in order to provide the best performance. Then, we wrap it in a beautiful wrapper. Who wouldn’t want this? The Aqua Sphere 2015 collection is now available.
